What it is

Apex Legends is a free battle royale shooter from Respawn where squads of three drop onto a map and fight to be the last team standing. It launched in 2019 with no announcement and became a Twitch staple almost overnight.

What they actually see

Players parachute in, scavenge weapons and shields from buildings, and fight other squads in fast first-person gunfights until one team remains, with sliding, ziplines, and abilities like smoke screens and portals. Deaths show a brief animated finisher and a knockdown state where teammates can revive you, and the violence is stylized science fiction rather than realistic.

Why kids love it

Each Legend has a distinct personality and special ability, so kids get to pick a character that feels like theirs and pull off movement tricks that look genuinely impressive.

Worth knowing

Rated T for Teen in the US and PEGI 16 in Europe, with voice chat between squadmates and a cosmetic store that includes randomized loot packs and expensive limited-time bundles.
