The fine print, in plain English
Privacy policy
Last updated: August 27, 2026
The short version
- We store your email address because you asked us to write to you.
- We never collect anything about your child: no names, no accounts, no messages, no locations.
- The only cookies are functional: your language choice and, if you sign in, your session. No ad trackers, no analytics scripts.
- We never sell or rent your data. There is nothing here worth selling anyway.
- One email to hello@recessreport.com deletes everything we hold about you.
What we collect, and why
Your email address, when you sign up, so we can send the briefing you asked for. We use double opt-in: nothing is sent beyond a single confirmation email until you confirm the address is yours. Unconfirmed addresses are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Optional tuning preferences, if you choose to set them: generic age ranges (such as 10 to 13) and platform names (such as Roblox). These describe your household in broad strokes so your briefing can be tuned. They are chosen by you, are never linked to any child's identity, and can be changed or cleared anytime.
Child profiles, if you create them: an emoji, a nickname you invent (the form tells you never to use a real name), an age range, and platform names. That is the entire record; there are no child names, birthdates, accounts, or identifiers, by deliberate design.
Questions you ask the decoder, along with the answer we gave, so we can enforce fair-use limits and improve answers. Ask-box use also signs you up for the briefing, through the same double opt-in.
Your reason for leaving, only if you choose to give one when unsubscribing.
What we never collect
Nothing about your child. Recess Report has no child accounts, installs nothing on anyone's device, and has no access to anyone's messages, contacts, location, or browsing. The trends we report come from public, aggregate sources: game charts, music and app charts, and search attention, measured in crowds, never in people.
This website runs no advertising or social-media trackers and no analytics scripts. Its only cookies are strictly functional: one remembering your language choice, and one holding your sign-in session if you use the household page. Signing in works by emailed link; there are no passwords, so there are no passwords to leak. Fonts are served from our own domain.
Who processes data for us
A small set of infrastructure providers process data on our behalf, under their own data-protection agreements: Supabase (our database, where your email and preferences live), Postmark (email delivery), Netlify (website hosting), and Anthropic (the decoder sends the text of your question, never your email address, to compose an answer). Some providers process data in the United States under standard contractual safeguards. We never sell or rent personal data to anyone.
How long we keep it
Your email and preferences: until you unsubscribe. After you unsubscribe we keep a minimal record of the address so we never email it again, and we delete even that on request. Unconfirmed signups: deleted automatically after 30 days. Decoder questions: kept while your subscription is active, deleted on request.
Your rights
Wherever you live, and certainly under the GDPR and UK GDPR: you can ask what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or have it deleted, and you can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing. The household page has a one-tap delete that removes everything immediately. You can also email hello@recessreport.com and we will act within 30 days. You have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority, though we would rather fix it first.
Children
Recess Report is a service for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from or about children, and the product is deliberately designed so that we could not: there is nothing for a child to sign up to and nothing that identifies one.
Changes
If this policy changes in any way that matters, we will say so in the briefing before the change takes effect, in plain English, not in a footnote.
Who we are
For anything in this policy: hello@recessreport.com.
