Pokémon Champions
What it is
Pokémon Champions is an upcoming Pokémon game built entirely around competitive battling rather than exploring a region. It was announced by The Pokémon Company for release on Nintendo Switch and mobile, and kids are currently watching news, speculation and early gameplay about it on Twitch and YouTube.
What they actually see
Streams show turn-based battles where two trainers send out Pokémon, pick from four moves, swap team members and watch animated attacks play out until one side faints. Between matches, viewers see menus of team-building: choosing held items, abilities, stat spreads and type matchups, often with a commentator explaining the strategy.

Why kids love it
It promises the part of Pokémon many kids care about most, building a clever team and testing it against real opponents, plus the fun of bringing creatures they have collected across years of games into one place.
Worth knowing
The game is not fully released yet, so most of what your child is watching is other people's commentary and speculation; when it does arrive, expect online matchmaking and likely some form of connection to the paid Pokémon HOME service.
One way in
I hear there's a new Pokémon game that's all battling. If you could bring six Pokémon into it, who's making the team?
