What it means

Cheugy describes something that's out of date or trying a bit too hard, usually pointed at trends that were cool five or ten years ago. It was coined by a Los Angeles high schooler around 2013 and went wide in 2021, when it got attached to a very specific millennial aesthetic: Live Laugh Love signs, Rae Dunn mugs, side parts. It's already fading, and using it now is itself considered a bit cheugy.
